St Anne's Parish Church, Corstorphine
Choirmaster

Hours: 4 hours (approx) per week (Thursday rehearsal, 7.30pm – 9pm & Sunday worship 10.15 – 12.15 approx & preparation time)

Salary: £ (negotiable within Church of Scotland scale)

We are looking for a suitable candidate to act as choirmaster to a choir of 15. The group takes part in Sunday worship from September – June during the church year, with an introit/anthem. The music in recent years has been both traditional and contemporary, and the choir are used to singing in four part harmony.

The suitable candidate will work in conjunction with the organist.

In the past, there was a "Singers" group for those who were not so able to read music and a "Choristers" group for younger members. There is therefore an opportunity for an interested individual to rebuild some of these activities, or to try something new.

Key Responsibilities:

Liaising with the minister and the organist in the selection of appropriate musical items.

 Rehearsing the choir on Thursday evenings in the musical items for future services, and also the hymns for the relevant Sunday.

 Preparing the choir along with the organist before worship each Sunday

 Attendance at Sunday morning service (usually 11am)

Other Ad Hoc Role Requirements:

At Christmas and Easter there are extra services at which it is hoped a choirmaster would offer extra musical input

 This post will require the holder to be checked by Disclosure Scotland

Skills and Experience Required:

While it is not essential to have previous choir experience, an ability to lead others in musical direction would be helpful

 Ability to play piano to accompany the choir for rehearsals (Grade 7/8 standard)

 The ability to communicate and work well with others.

 An interest in a wide range of music

Hawick: Trinity Church of Scotland

How would you like the opportunity to play a very fine and well maintained Binns organ (two manual with 21 stops) that is almost a hundred years old, leading the worship at Hawick: Trinity Church of Scotland?

From the end of June 2010 our regular organist Mr Archie Sanderson of Melrose retires and so we are looking for occasional players or even a regular.

If you are interested please get in touch with the minister Rev Michael Scouler by phone: 01450 378248 or by email: michaelscouler@hotmail.co.uk.
